FAQ

1. What should my hourly rate be?

This depends largely on your skills and experience, the job that is offered, and market trends at the time. For an example of how to work out your rate have a look at our article, Calculating your rate.

2. What is Online 89's service fee?

3. Do I have to be an Australian citizen?

You do not need to be an Australian citizen to be one of our candidates. However, many Government agencies do require Australian citizenship.  This may mean the pool of suitable jobs will be smaller.

4. How long will it take to get an answer after I hand in my application?

Unfortunately we cannot predict how long an agency will take to make a decision. We generally will wait for two weeks before starting to chase up decisions.

5. If I am unsuccessful in a role, will I get feedback?

Unless you are interviewed, clients generally do not provide feedback to unsuccessful candidates. However we are always happy to provide you with feedback based on the application and resume you have submitted.

5. What is a security clearance?

A security clearance is a check of your background that allows the Government to decide if you are trustworthy enough to be granted access to sensitive information. More information about this can be found in our article, Security clearances explained.

6. How do I get a security clearance?

You cannot just apply to get a security clearance. Your clearance must be sponsored by a Government agency. More information about this can be found in our article, Security Clearances explained.

6. Do I need to provide referees?

If the documentation has specified that you should provide referees, then yes you will need to provide these details.  Please let your referees know you have included their details.  Generally clients will not contact referees unless you are shortlisted after interview.

7. Can you extend the deadline for responses?

Online 89 tries to be as flexible as possible, but we are bound by the closing date and time set by the agency. These deadlines are very strict.

8. Do you have payroll management service?

Online 89's preferred payroll management provider, Professionals Online, provides payroll services to those contractors who require them. More information about payroll management services is in our knowledgebase.

9. Do you have a timesheet that I can use?

10. Do you email out a list of your jobs?
We do! You can subscribe to our Job alerts newsletter on our website.

11. I'm new to contracting, can you tell me what it involves?

We will be more than happy to discuss what's involved, or you can have a look at our step-by-step guide to contracting on our website.

12. Do you provide salary packaging?

Online 89's preferred payroll management provider, Professionals Online, provides salary packaging services to those contractors who require them. More information about   salary packaging services is in our knowledgebase.

13. Can I register for a job online?

Yes, simply go to the job search section of our website and enter your details in the candidate registration tab.

14. How do I apply for a job?

You can either apply online through our candidate centre, email us about your interest, or give us a call. We will then forward you the relevant documents. More information about becoming a contractor can be found in our Step-by-step guide to contracting.

15. I forgot to send through my timesheet.  What should I do?

Send it through as soon as possible.  We cannot invoice the client on your behalf until we have this. If we haven't received your timesheet we will generally chase this up. Timesheets need to be signed and approved before they are emailed to us.

16. My pay isn't in my account.  What do I do?

If you are paid directly by us you will receive your pay in arrears, according to the terms of your contract. If your pay is not in your account within two days of when it should be, please contact Online 89 immediately. If you are paid by a sub-contracting company you will need to contact them directly.

17. I've just found out that my contract is ending early.  What do I do?

Unfortunately agencies often include a clause allowing them to end contracts early; however this is not a regular occurance. Generally, they will inform you this is going to happen well in advance. 18. I'm moving away and cannot complete my contract.  What should I do?

Contracts are legally binding and candidates cannot end a contract prematurely without extensive negotiations with the agency. Some agencies impose financial penalties when candidates do not complete contracts.  You will need to contact Online 89 immediately to discuss. 

19. What are my Workplace Health and Safety requirements while on the job?

You will need to abide by the WH&S guidelines of Online 89 and your host employer. Online 89 can provide you with a checklist to insure that your work station is safe, and will assist you in following this up with the client.  Please see the WH&S section of our website for more information.

20. I'm having a problem with my supervisor/colleagues in my current contract. Are there any steps I can take to resolve the problem?

Online 89 cares about the wellbeing of its contractors and you should contact us immediately if you are having a problem with others in your workplace. Alternatively you can also look at the Fairwork website for more information about your rights in the workplace.

21. The agency that I work with is closing down over Christmas. What does this mean for me?

As a contractor you are only paid for the hours that you work. This means that you will not be paid for public holidays, days off, sick days or Christmas shut down etc. You should take this into account when negotiating your rate for a role. 22. I've had an accident in the workplace.  What do I do?
